Renovation guide
Bathroom renovation: prepare the budget before the quote
Begin by describing what you want changed and what must stay. A refresh and a remodel involving installations are different jobs. Photos and an AI estimate can help you prepare; they do not replace a professional assessment. This guide concerns projects in Denmark.
1. Separate the look you want from the actual work
Describe concrete changes, such as different cabinets, finishes or layout. State whether you want to retain the toilet, basin and shower positions. Let the quoting professional assess the consequences rather than inferring them from an inspiration image.
An AI visualisation can illustrate a room you would like. It does not establish clearances, wet-room design, installation feasibility or compliance. Keep actual photos separate so the tradesperson can distinguish the existing home from your idea.
2. Gather photos, measurements and existing information
Take wide photos and show relevant surfaces and visible installations. Record room length, width and height and door/window positions. Mark checked dimensions. Describe known damage or previous problems without trying to diagnose them through AI.
Find records of earlier renovation and installations if available. State what remains unknown. Do not dismantle fittings or open up construction to take photos for an app. Use material you have permission to share and keep private documents and identifiable people out of the frame.
3. A budget checklist for the professional discussion
Ask the quoting business to mark each item included, excluded or unresolved:
- Clarification and any design work for the intended solution.
- Removal, protection of the home and disposal.
- Relevant floor/wall surfaces, materials and finishes.
- The installations and fittings actually being changed.
- Access, coordination between trades, cleanup and documentation.
- Taxes, payment terms, exclusions and additional work.
This list supports a conversation. It is not a technical specification or a statement that every item is needed in your home. Ask professionals to identify the investigations and work your property requires. Agree how new findings affect budget and timing.
4. What needs professional assessment?
Official Danish guidance addresses the special demands of moisture and wet rooms. Have the actual solution assessed, including existing conditions, relevant installations and documentation. This guide specifies no falls, zones, waterproofing or electrical-installation details.
Certain electrical, plumbing and drainage tasks require an authorised business. Check the company and relevant authorisation scope in the authority’s register. A Fixer profile is not itself that evidence.
Clarify any permissions or approvals needed for your property. Copenhagen Municipality’s guidance is a local source, not a determination for all Danish homes. Ask the relevant municipality and, where appropriate, the property owner or association about the actual project.
5. A brief you can adapt
“We want to renovate our existing bathroom. These are current photos, provisional measurements and desired changes. Please identify what can be assessed now and what requires a visit or further investigation. Describe scope, materials, trades, responsibilities, documentation, exclusions, total including VAT and expected timing. Explain how additional work must be approved.”
Add the facilities you need during the work and the access arrangements. This illustration is not a customer case and provides no verified project price or time saving.
6. Use estimates and compare quotes carefully
Fixer AI from Tap Media Group can help assemble a description and an indicative renovation estimate from photos, measurements and answers. Review the assumptions and resolve mistakes or missing scope. Concealed conditions may change the work.
Ask businesses to describe the same job before comparing totals. A higher price may cover more work or different materials. Resolve unclear items in writing. The renovation agreement is between you and the tradesperson, and accepting a quote can be binding.
7. Can a photo give a final bathroom renovation price?
No. A photo does not show every construction detail, installation or required task. Use it for preparation and obtain an assessment.
8. Does a convincing AI image prove the design can be built?
No. Appearance and technical feasibility need separate assessment.
9. Does Fixer guarantee three quotes?
No. At most three tradespeople can buy access to the same job. This guarantees neither three quotes nor a contract.
