Renovation guide

Compare renovation quotes before you accept

Compare what each quote covers first. Different prices can reflect different materials, quantities, exclusions or jobs. Resolve unclear details in writing before accepting.

1. An estimate or a quote?

An AI estimate in Fixer is planning guidance. A tradesperson’s quote has its own price, scope and conditions. It may include exclusions or require a site visit.

Accepting a quote in the app can create a binding agreement directly between you and the tradesperson. Do not assume an acceptance button is only a request for information. Check the quote and terms first.

2. Check that the scope matches

Specify rooms, areas, quantities and the result you want. Check whether demolition, preparation, property protection, materials, installation, travel and disposal are included.

Ask for specific products or a defined quality. A product name, quantity and finish are easier to compare than a general reference to standard materials.

Look for exclusions: concealed damage, additional electrical or plumbing work, permit requirements, access and work by other trades.

3. Compare prices and payment terms

Check currency and taxes, whether the price is fixed, estimated or hourly, and what happens if quantities or conditions change. Get any deposits and payment deadlines in writing.

Agree how extra work will be approved and priced. Fixer does not process payment for the renovation itself. A tradesperson’s credit balance pays for access to customer enquiries, not for your building work.

4. Check the business and timeline

Confirm the contracting business and check the licences, insurance and experience relevant to your job. A Fixer profile does not by itself mean every detail has been verified or that the business is licensed for your work.

Agree the start, expected completion, access, point of contact and treatment of delays. Keep quotes, messages and changes to the scope.

5. If something goes wrong

Contact the tradesperson about the work first and refer to your written agreement. Contact Fixer about technical problems, suspected misuse or platform content.

Platform terms cannot remove mandatory rights. The rules and complaint routes for the work depend on the country, agreement and parties involved. Fixer does not provide legal, technical or safety advice.
